Kgato Selwe
PhD Student
Kgato is a PhD student at York, co-supervised by Prof. Caroline Dessent and Dr. Brett Sallach (Dept. of Environment and Geography, University of York).
Kgato completed his MSc in Forensic Science and Chemical Analysis at the University of Central Lancashire in 2019 with a distinction (funded from the government of Botswana), where he worked on method development for illicit drugs using UPLC-MS/MS. He then went on to work on the isolation and detection of biologically active compounds in plant material.
Under the same sponsorship, Kgato's research now focuses on the occurrence of compounds of emerging concern in the environment, with special interest in the aquatic systems in Botswana. He also studies the degradation of chemical pollutants, with focus on antiretrovirals and illicit drugs.
